Château Beaubourg 2016 Côtes de Bourg

£12.00

Very decent gentleman's lunchtime claret from what we'd call a reliable chateau in an area of Bordeaux which always seems to offer particularly good value in better vintages and where wines can be drunk indecently young yet can, again in decent years only, be kept for a decade or more and still give pleasure

Any description of this wine could include good legs, attractive ruby colour, faint whiff of alcoholic strawberries on the nose, plus dried herbs and a whiff of pencil lead. An hour or so after opening, in the mouth there's plenty of cassis and enough acidity to balance the tannins which, while not yet exactly silky, are only noticeable when served without food, and that is not yet a proposition for this wine, which cries out to be served generously with hearty fare
