Château Les Hauts de Perey Bordeaux Supérieur 2013 halves

Even in years considered 'poor' such as 2013, the Yon family have always produced a decent wine but 2013 was never a vintage for ageing and halves carry extra risk in that respect. Needs an hour or so open to breathe and probably should have been drunk a year or two ago when it would have been a bit more dull but, in other respects, a better drink. There's a lovely leathery nose, quite typical of some of the Entre Deux Mers reds and in the mouth there's little fruit to counter what's left of the acidity, which makes the wine seem unbalanced and oddly salty. This would probably be better with food and does get better with a bit of air, when some fruit appears, but really it's best suited to student children, village raffle prizes and less favoured relatives at times of giving, all of whom will appreciate it, and should be priced to clear
